The upcoming MORS workshop entitled “Wargaming in the Southern Region,” scheduled for 11-13 February 2025, in Miami, Florida, will focus on all aspects of professional gaming (wargaming) but with special emphasis on topics and issues relevant to SOUTHCOM and southern region national security challenges. This workshop is another in a series of workshops with previous sessions being held in Hawaii and San Diego in the INDOPACOM area of responsibility. This year, we will continue our efforts to bring together wargamers in an informal space where they can exchange technical and operational information on building and running games. Since we will be in the southern region, we especially invite those with material on gaming civil support, southern region operations, and disaster response to attend.
The event offers professionals the chance to present cutting-edge research and techniques related to wargaming. Presenters can submit abstracts on various topics, ranging from theoretical aspects of wargaming to emerging technologies in game design, as well as practical game demonstrations which will allow participants to engage with innovative methodologies. A special classified session may be arranged for select papers on February 14, pending approval.
The format of the workshop emphasizes collaboration through panels, presentations, and active participation games, ensuring a focused yet flexible program shaped by the interests of the attendees. Proposals for talks, panels, and participation games are welcome as long as the topic is related to developing or documenting professional wargaming. Proposals related to SOUTHCOM and the region are of particular interest, but, as with previous workshops, we welcome all forms of material related to professional gaming. The event aims to foster an inclusive environment, facilitating the exchange of ideas and the advancement of the profession.
Submissions are now open for abstracts, panels, and participation games, offering a chance to connect with leading wargaming professionals and contribute to solutions addressing complex regional security concerns.
