National Security Risk Analysis Community Meeting

Join the National Security Risk Analysis Community on 20 April at 1200 ET! Our speaker will be Samuel Denard, PhD.

A section of the forthcoming SAE International Cyber-Physical Software Security Standard specifies software development requirements.  The requirements set a bar for stakeholders' actions needed to maximize their software product's security.  Writing broadly applicable security requirements is a daunting task.  The first step of that task was to define the thing (software) about which the requirements were written.  The requirements flow from that definition.  After studying many standards and guidance documents from academic, commercial, and governmental sources, several hundred individual requirements were drafted for the Standards Committee's consideration.  This presentation will highlight some of the more significant requirements and suggest how cybersecurity personnel can use the requirements to ease their workload and improve the software development process.  The development improvements affect cost, schedule, quality, security, skill levels, and more.

Samuel Denard, PhD is a mechanical engineer trained at MIT, Stanford, and Texas Tech University.  He has spent much of his professional career engineering software.  For 25 years, he was an independent consultant.  In addition, he has been employed by consumer, nuclear energy, petroleum, and space exploration industries.  Currently, he is a Senior Security Engineer with Fortify, an OpenText company.  He is a member of several professional organizations: ASME, IEEE, the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence, and the Society for Risk Analysis.  He is also a contributing member of the SAE International Standards Committee for Cyber-Physical System Security.  See www.linkedin.com/in/sam-denard-phd-02a158.
